I don't know since when maybe since Air Asia start their business? Malaysian like to put "travel" as their hobby. I dare to say 6 out of 10 of my friend's Facebook stated so. It really makes me wonder, is it travel is your hobby? They put it as hobby because they just simply like to travel? Or do they like it so much until it is a "hobby"?
Can they travel as frequent as Nicole until she stay in hotel at different places without renting a room at a fix location? Can they really travel yearly no matter how tight is their schedule or how poor is their economy financial on that year? Can they overnight at the airport bench to wait for the transit? Can they sleep at the railway station to wait for the earliest train to depart from there?
Or am I the one who sound too harsh to them? Maybe all my question on the above only apply to those back packers. But not towards people who are rich to travel. If you are rich then all my questions will not be a question.
I like to travel. ( errr...actually not that much...but I like too) I am always interested to see other people culture, festival, religion sites and scenery. However, if you ask me, whether travel is my hobby or not? Then it is definitely a NO from me. I "like" it but not until the stage that it is my hobby.

Life is simple, don't make it complicated. When people grow up always tend to make things complicated, you think too much dude ;_)
well CL, that's a very interesting observation. I think it has two-fold interpretations here.
1. With the advent of social pages like friendster, facebook and myspace ~ everyone want to appear cool. Seems like certain 'hobbies like enjoying music and travelling are "cool" hence their widespread adoption. For all you know, they have only been to sekinchan and genting - but nevertheless it is travelling. :)
2. Another angle to look at this would be consistent with yours. Yes, cheap flights and reasonable flow of information from internet mean everyone can travel - whether physically or virtually. :P
With that said, i would have put travelling as someone i enjoy doing too. I might be afford travelling to far exotic location every year, but i think i would have at least made overnight trips to various location for the past 10 years.
When want to travel to NZ???
lee meng,
pieces's gal...always think too much. good imagination in my brain. hahaha
Kam,
travel NZ?? good question. let's ask mr nic
gotta agree with kam on the "cool" factor for considering travelling as a hobby... and i think, cl, your definition of a hobby is kinda extreme as well... just how much one is willing to sacrifice for his/her hobby really does depend a lot on the surrounding situation, don't you think so? financial situation, social responsibilities and the likes... anyway, i'm not making any point here... so i'll just say that as long as you enjoy it, just do it... =)
i used to think that traveling is a great hobby and it's going to be something that i'm going to enjoy. i actually make it a routine that i travel at least once overseas and twice outstation every year.
but lately when traveling becomes part of my work, it feels different and that totally took out all the nice feeling i used to have when i'm out of KL. these days i'd rather stay at home if i have the choice. ;)
nic,
i agreed that i am too extreme on the definition of hobby. for me, hobby means smt u r willing to do it no matter wat. or u will find a way to sustain the hobby.
jason,
someone who constantly has once overseas and twice outstation yearly can claim that as his hobby.
human...always take it for granted when we had it on hand. =D
